This is by far one of the most different lemonades I have had. But, it is also one of the tastiest and most refreshing. What makes limonada suiça so great? Well, it is the fact that the whole lime gets blended into this lemonade. Yup, peel and all! Instead of just using the juice of the lime nothing goes to waste and everything goes into the blender. The lime is blended together with water, then strained, and then mixed with some sugar to make it nice and sweet. Its that simple!
The treat with this lemonade is that the peel from the lime adds a bitterness to the lemonade. Instead of just having a sweet and simple lemonade you get an extra bit of bitterness that makes this drink so much more refreshing.
I am not the biggest fan of most lemonades, mostly because they are all way too sweet, but limonada suiça is a wonderful treat as the bitterness from the peel takes out some of the sweetness and makes it extremely refreshing.
Translated limonada suiça means Swiss Lemonade. Where this name comes from I do not know as I have not seen my Swiss friends making this type of lemonade. Or maybe they were keeping this a secret!? Wherever the name comes from this is a delicious drink that will refresh you on a hot summer day or bring back summer to a cold winter!
2 1/2 cups water
5 1/2 tbsp sugar
Wash and quarter the limes. Place them in a blender together with the water and blend well. Pass through a strainer. Add the sugar. Add ice cubes to chill the lemonade. Enjoy.
